Two Bib Gourmands Join The MICHELIN Guide Hungary

  • The MICHELIN Guide Hungary 2025 selection has been revealed today, highlighting the best restaurants across the country

  • The selection features 78 establishments, including two new Bib Gourmands and restaurant that is welcomed into the MICHELIN Green Star Community

  • Eight other restaurants also join the selection

Today, Michelin unveiled its new selection of restaurants for The MICHELIN Guide Hungary 2025. 

The 2025 edition of The Guide recommends a total of 78 restaurants: 36 located within Budapest and 42 situated outside of the capital. This includes 2 Two-Star restaurants; 8 One-Star restaurants; 13 Bib Gourmand restaurants (including two new additions); and 55 other recommended restaurants (including eight additions). Six restaurants also make up the Green Star Community – one of which is newly welcomed this year.

  • We are delighted to announce that 10 restaurants have joined the Hungarian selection for 2025. In current times, it is especially encouraging that two of them enter The Guide with a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand distinction, which recognises their commitment to offering quality cuisine at a great price.

    Highlights of this year’s selection include our Opening of the Year, Padi in Rátka, a wonderfully modern restaurant in a beautiful vineyard setting, and the welcoming of One-MICHELIN-Starred Pajta into the MICHELIN Green Star Community for its superb mindful credentials.

MICHELIN STARS

MICHELIN Stars are awarded to restaurants offering outstanding cooking, taking into account five universal criteria: the quality of the ingredients; the harmony of flavours; the mastery of techniques; the personality of the chef as expressed through their cuisine; and, just as importantly, consistency both across the entire menu and over time.

  • Platán Gourmet in Tata and Stand in Budapest both retain their Two-MICHELIN-Star status for 2025.

  • The eight existing One-Stars are also all re-awarded for 2025. These are:

BIB GOURMANDS

The Bib Gourmand award highlights restaurants which offer good quality food at a great price. For 2025, two new restaurants join The Guide with a Bib Gourmand award – and both are located in Budapest.

Tucked away on a quiet city square, Cabrio is a natural wine bar with vintage flair, a leafy terrace and a trendy, laid-back vibe. Offering an expertly curated selection of 100% natural wines from across Hungary and wider Europe, Cabrio pairs its bottles with a bold, seasonal menu of small plates – think burnt celeriac carpaccio or salmon trout tartare with green gazpacho. With a knowledgeable, friendly team and a focus on flavour-forward, shareable dishes, it is fast becoming the go-to spot for wine lovers and casual diners alike.

Hidden in plain sight, 94' Konyha & Bar delivers vibrant, Vietnamese-rooted cuisine in a minimalist, welcoming setting. The creative menu features dishes like fragrant pho and their signature 94' Gohan – a fusion of beef, fried rice and XO sauce – alongside other Asian-inspired favourites. With a central bar, open kitchen views, and a value-driven ‘Lunch Break’ menu, this unassuming gem is perfect for a relaxed meal, best finished with a strong Vietnamese coffee.

MAIN SELECTION

55 restaurants feature in the Main Selection this year, with 8 joining The Guide for the first time:

BiBo Budapest sits atop a hotel and offers magical views across the river to Budapest Castle. Both the menu and wine list fuse Hungary and Spain, with dishes to share and signature cocktails adding to the fun.

There are few places more relaxing to dine than on the stepped riverside terrace of the modern Dereszla Bisztró, located in Bodrogkeresztúr, in the heart of wine country. Modern Hungarian dishes showcase ingredients from carefully selected suppliers.

At Fausto’s, Chef Fausto Di Vora, can proudly claim over 30 successful years in the city. Having moved location from Pest to Buda, his elegant restaurant with a glassed-in terrace is the perfect spot to enjoy tasty Italian dishes.

Set a stone’s throw from the water on the southern bank of Lake Balaton in Fonyód, the intimate Lokal at the Lake offers boldly flavoured rustic small plates in locally crafted surroundings.

Budapest’s Majorelle sits within an impressive five-storey balconied building. All the Moroccan greats can be found here, and Chef Saad imports his spices directly, so dishes burst with authentic combinations of spicy and sweet.

The Sauska Tokaj Winery sits on the hillside in Rátka and plays host to Padi, a sleek restaurant whose terrace offers views over the vines below. Refined, eye-catching dishes are perfectly matched by wines from the region.

Traditional home-cooked meals of the past are the inspiration at Petrányi Csopak. Perched high on the hillside in Csopak, it looks out over a vineyard towards Lake Balaton in the middle distance.

Tiszavirág sits within a restored Victorian townhouse in Szeged and comes with a cosy bar, an enclosed courtyard terrace, elegant bedrooms and even a mini spa. Dishes have a traditional Hungarian heart but a refined look and feel.

GREEN STAR COMMUNITY

The MICHELIN Green Star highlights restaurants at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their mindful practices – restaurants which offer dining experiences that combine culinary excellence with initiatives aimed at reducing their overall impact on the natural world.

Those within the selection that impress the Inspectors the most are invited to form part of the MICHELIN Green Star Community, where they are encouraged to share their innovative and inspiring visions by fostering dialogue and collaborations that will help pursue progress and shape the future of the gastronomy. These restaurants are a source of inspiration both for keen foodies and the hospitality industry as a whole.

Already recommended in The Guide, Pajta in Őriszentpéter has newly joined the Green Star Community for 2025. Tucked away in the scenic Őrség National Park, near the Austrian-Slovenian border, Pajta is the most remote countryside restaurant in Hungary to hold One MICHELIN Star. Founded by Flóra and Ferenc in a small barn (or pajta), the restaurant has now grown into a full nature-driven retreat, complete with a meadow-fringed setting, forest-view lodges and a sauna tucked into the woods. Menus shift with the seasons, celebrating traditional Hungarian dishes using produce from the surrounding region, with fermentation and pickling adding a welcome punch to the flavour-packed creations.

SPECIAL AWARDS

While The MICHELIN Guide’s culinary distinctions are awarded to a restaurant as a whole, the MICHELIN Special Awards are given to outstanding individuals and teams who, thanks to their infinite passion and considerable skills, can make a restaurant experience unforgettable.

This year's winners are:

Opening of the Year Award – Máté Gerák at Padi in Rátka.

A hit with oenophiles and diners alike, this sleek, contemporary restaurant sits within an equally striking building on the hillside and looks out over the vines of the winery that it calls home. The open kitchen really adds to the atmosphere, with Chef Máté Gerák leading a team whose menus are inspired by the surrounding region and the latest fresh produce available.

Young Chef Award – Dávid Pallag at Rutin in Budaörs.

Friendly couple Dávid and Fanni run this intimate little restaurant together, with Fanni welcoming guests and Dávid taking charge in the kitchen. He has a passion for traditional family recipes and uses these, along with fond memories from his childhood, to connect with guests through his cooking. His dishes have a feel-good factor and the accompanying stories really complete the experience.

Service Award – Róbert Ráduly and the Team at UMO in Budapest.

Part set in a contemporary hotel atrium and part in an enclosed courtyard, this Latin American restaurant offers a great range of dishes, gins and wines, which is only enhanced by the amazingly friendly team. It’s a joy to watch the interaction between the kitchen and front-of-house teams, and dishes arrive with smiles galore, making for a really memorable experience.

Sommelier Award – Norbert Varga at Two-MICHELIN-Starred Stand in Budapest.

This eye-catching modern restaurant comes with a central glass-walled kitchen, refined modern cuisine and a chatty buzz, which is helped along by the personable service team. Part of that team is sommelier Norbert, who mixes charisma with a wonderful sense of humour and, at times, a bit of cheek. He breaks down many of the preconceptions and formality often associated with the world of sommeliers by chatting away and enthusiastically describing each wine with such passion.
