MICHELIN Keys debut in Greece, awarding hotel honors in the country to 68 outstanding properties

  • Selected by the MICHELIN Guide Inspectors, these hotels offer the world's most outstanding experiences and can be booked on the MICHELIN Guide’s digital platforms.

  • The MICHELIN Guide’s ambition is to become the first global independent booking platform for outstanding restaurants and hotels.

Michelin is pleased to present the very first MICHELIN Key selection for Greece. Recognizing 68 of the most outstanding stays in Greece, this inaugural selection presents 1 hotel with Three MICHELIN Keys, 7 with Two MICHELIN Keys and 60 with One MICHELIN Key.

Offering an ever more comprehensive service, the MICHELIN Guide's hotel selection provides users with recommendations for a complete travel experience. Awarded by the MICHELIN Guide inspection team based on anonymous stays or visits – independently of existing labels, tourism stars and pre-established quotas – the MICHELIN Keys are a new international benchmark. They aim to guide travellers to accommodations that stand out for their unique hospitality concept, distinctive character, warm welcome and extremely high level of service.

68 hotels awarded MICHELIN Keys in Greece

After presenting MICHELIN Key selections in 2024 in more than 10 top tourist destinations such as France, Italy, Japan, the U.S., Mexico and Thailand, the MICHELIN Guide Inspectors have extended their research to Greece.

Following multiple anonymous stays or visits and evaluating hotels on five international criteria , the MICHELIN Inspectors awarded MICHELIN Keys to 68 hotels among more than 200 Greek properties recommended in the broader MICHELIN Guide selection. The Key hotels bring together a wide range of concepts and accommodation types, from design boutique hotels to iconic luxury ones, from high-hand coastal resorts to secluded island properties.

  • We are absolutely thrilled to present to world travelers our very first MICHELIN Key selection for Greece. Featuring no fewer than 68 outstanding hotels, this selection is an invitation to explore Greece, visit its historically rich areas, relax on the most beautiful coasts of the Mediterranean, Ionian and Aegean Seas, and enjoy timeless philoxenia. From boutique hotels and historic grand hotels located in buzzy Athens to country lodges nestled in stunning scenery; from peaceful island retreats to design properties: every hotel awarded One, Two or Three MICHELIN Keys is a gem sculpted by talented professionals. Using the MICHELIN Guide’s digital platforms, travelers can now filter their search and book hotels for stays that we hope will be unforgettable.

One, Two and Three MICHELIN Keys

Just like the famous Stars that indicate the best culinary experiences, the MICHELIN Keys reveal accommodations in the Guide’s hotel selection that offer the most outstanding stays. They are a new benchmark for travellers, qualifying each hotel experience in broader terms than simple amenities.

One MICHELIN Key: a very special stay

This is a true gem with its own character and personality. It may break the mould, offer something different or simply be one of the best of its type. Service always goes the extra mile and provides significantly more than similarly priced establishments.

Two MICHELIN Keys: an exceptional stay

Somewhere truly unique and exceptional in every way, where a memorable experience is always guaranteed. A hotel of character, personality and charm that’s operated with obvious pride and considerable care. Eye-catching design or architecture, and a real sense of the locale make this an exceptional place to stay.

Three MICHELIN Keys: an extraordinary stay

It’s all about astonishment and indulgence here – this is the ultimate in comfort and service, style and elegance. It is one of the world’s most remarkable and extraordinary hotels and a destination in itself for that trip of a lifetime. All the elements of truly great hospitality are here to ensure any stay will live long in the memory and hearts of travelers.

One unique hotel awarded Three MICHELIN Keys

Three MICHELIN Keys, indicating an extraordinary stay, worthy of a specific trip, have been presented to 1 hotel located in Athens.

The Four Seasons Astir Palace is a sumptuous 300+-room establishment, including 21 suites, which blends 1960s architecture with modern elegance. A symbol of hospitality excellence on the Athenian Riviera, it is perched on a pine forest in the heart of a private peninsula, offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea just 30 minutes from the city center. Several restaurants including the MICHELIN-starred Pelagos, a magnificent bar, a spa and pristine private beaches complete this heavenly setting.

Two MICHELIN Keys presented to 7 exceptional properties

Indicating an exceptional stay, 7 hotels have been awarded Two MICHELIN Keys.

Located on Syntagma Square, in the heart of Athens, the Hotel Grande Bretagne is a former Victorian mansion that has been completely renovated. Its architecture and London style make it a singular place in the heart of the Greek capital. The hotel's balconies and rooftop restaurant offer spectacular views of the Acropolis. Nearby, The Dolli at Acropolis, a luxurious boutique hotel nestled in a historic building, bewitches travelers with its intimate, sophisticated atmosphere. The hotel's rooftop infinity pool offers exceptional panoramic views of the city's iconic monuments (in particular, the Acropolis).

In Epirus, the Aristi Mountain Resort invites guests to a peaceful escape in the heart of nature. Perched in the mountains around the town of Zagori, this stone-built establishment combines modern comfort with local traditions, and is an ideal destination for hiking and adventure enthusiasts.

On the island of Kefalonia, the Eliamos Villas Hotel & Spa offers an idyllic setting with private villas designed by its owner, herself a talented decorator. Restaurant, bar, infinity pool, gym and exclusive spa face the deep blue of the Ionian Sea.

Peloponnese is also well represented within the list, with three hotels awarded two MICHELIN Keys. Amanzoe, a peaceful haven perched on a hill, seduced the MICHELIN Guide Inspectors with its elegant Greek pavilions, breathtaking views on the Aegean Sea and exceptional service. Kinsterna Hotel, a restored 13th century manor house near Monemvasia, combines medieval heritage and modernity in the heart of splendid gardens while Tainaron Blue Retreat, located a few kilometers from Cape Tainaron - Europe's southernmost point - is a 19th-century stone tower renovated into an intimate, ecologically-driven retreat. This unique location offers spectacular panoramic views of the wild Mani coastline.

60 hotels receive One MICHELIN Key

One MICHELIN Key has been awarded to 60 hotels offering very special stays.

Representing a broad spectrum of hotel concepts, accommodation types and geography, the first Greek MICHELIN Key selection offers a diversity of experiences suited to all budgets and desires. More than half of the 60 award-winning hotels are located in Mykonos (14), Santorini (11) and Athens (6).

Among the most original hotel and boldest design concepts receiving One MICHELIN Key is Dexamenes Seaside Hotel, an atypical, industrial-chic hotel created from former wine-making reservoirs lining a magnificent seafront. In Crete, in the village of Kapsalianá - once renowned for its olive-farming but largely abandoned in the 1950s - the Kapsaliana Village Hotel brings the old buildings back to life, preserving their traditional stone architecture.

Travelers can also choose to stay in international brand hotels such as NUMO Mykonos Boutique Resort from the Hilton Group, or the One&Only Aesthesis in Athens from the Kerzner International Group. In Greece, local hotel collections are also making a name for themselves. In Santorini, for example, the Katikies collection has been awarded One Key for three of its establishments: Katikies Kirini Suites & Spa, Katikies Santorini and Katikies Garden Santorini.

Some other properties also offer unique experiences in Greece's most legendary destinations. Xenodocheio Milos, located in Athens, is an ideal base for exploring the historic center, while in the Peloponnese, Euphoria Retreat combines serenity and history close to the iconic sites of Sparta and Mystras. Kókkini Porta Rossa, nestled in the medieval old town of Rhodes, reveals an important heritage near the ancient remains of its colossus. Domes Zeen Chania, in Crete, offers harmony between contemporary design and cultural discoveries, a stone's throw from the Minoan treasures of Knossos.

Offering only a limited number of rooms, many hotels in the selection guarantee personalized stays away from the crowds. Monument in Athens is a modern gem with just 9 rooms, nestled in a 19th-century building. Kamares Historic Boutique Hotel & Spa (9 rooms) blends old-world charm with a focus on well-being, while Albergo Gelsomino (8 rooms) and Noma Milos (7 rooms) provide peaceful retreats with superb views. Aristide Hotel (9 rooms) and Limestone Santorini (5 rooms) offer exclusive stays distinguished by meticulous design. Meanwhile, Santorini's Canaves Sunday (8 rooms) and Kivotos Santorini (5 rooms) ensure a heavenly, relaxing experience.

All MICHELIN Guide hotel recommendations are available for free on the MICHELIN Guide website and mobile application. On these digital platforms, all recommended hotels can be booked directly at the best market price. To assist travelers throughout their stay, the MICHELIN Guide also provides a concierge service run by travel experts employed by the MICHELIN Guide.
