The MICHELIN Guide expands in Greece: Santorini and Thessaloniki to join Athens in 2026 edition
Santorini and Thessaloniki become the latest Greek destinations to join Athens in the 2026 selection.
This expansion confirms the status of Athens, Santorini, and Thessaloniki as culinary landmarks for Greece.
The new selection will be announced in the 2nd half of 2026.
Michelin is delighted to announce the expansion of the MICHELIN Guide in Greece, now including the island of Santorini and the city of Thessaloniki. As the selection expands in 2026 to include these new destinations, there will be no Athens selection in 2025. The inaugural selections for all three destinations will be unveiled in the second half of next year.
Athens, a crossroads between ancient heritage and modern creativity, continues to evolve with a dining scene that reflects its dynamic urban character. Santorini offers a contrasting landscape shaped by volcanic soil, blue waters, and a strong agricultural tradition. Its produce-driven cuisine and serene atmosphere attract travelers seeking purity and depth of flavor. Thessaloniki, Greece’s historic port city, shaped by centuries of cultural exchange, has developed a generous and diverse food culture.
The MICHELIN Guide Athens has long been a cornerstone since its first edition in 1987. The gastronomic diversity of Greece’s legendary capital offers remarkable tables at every level. In partnership with Greek National Tourism Organization, the MICHELIN Guide is now taking a step forward by including the coastal city of Thessaloniki and the celebrated island of Santorini. This expansion to other parts of the Aegean coast aims to uncover new hidden culinary gems in the region.
Alongside its restaurant selection, the MICHELIN Guide also highlights a curated list of hotels across Greece and around the world. The MICHELIN Keys, introduced in 2024, are awarded to the most outstanding hotels in the Guide and are celebrated in the same way that the world’s best restaurants are recognized with Stars. All hotels are evaluated by anonymous inspectors based on design, architecture, service, and character.
