A new Michelin tire enabling city bikes to leave the town in complete safety: the MICHELIN City Touring
A new urban tire perfect for weekend rides, offering versatile use (80% asphalt/20% track), and increased safety in the wet.
Highly resistant thanks to its new City Shield structure, which boosts puncture resistance in the tread by 53% and in the sidewalls by 11%.

A new tire concept for commuting, which also accompanies cyclists during the weekend
Cyclists are no longer content just to use their bikes between work and home but are now integrating them into their holiday and leisure outings, whether on the road or along country paths. To meet this requirement, Michelin is launching the new MICHELIN City Touring tire at the beginning of 2025. Based on the experience gained from the MICHELIN City Street in 2024, this new tire puts the emphasis on safety, especially in the wet (1)(2), as well as on sustainability, thanks to a MagiX rubber mixture designed specifically for the City range. Its ability to adapt to both asphalt roads and paths is based on a new tread that ensures good grip when braking and reliable traction under all conditions.
Both more robust and lighter, thanks to the City Shield technology
The priority of urban cyclists is that their tire is puncture resistant. To meet this expectation, Michelin has developed the City Shield technology, which relies on five crown plies to strengthen its structure. This exclusive construction allows the new MICHELIN City Touring to offer 53% more protection against punctures in the tread and over 11% more in the sidewalls, in comparison to its predecessor, the MICHELIN Protek Cross Max (3)(4). The structure of the MICHELIN City Touring also allows for resisting punctures due to pinch shock, which can occur when riding at low pressures2. While being extremely robust, the MICHELIN City Touring is 31% lighter than its predecessor, which allows it to guarantee a more dynamic and pleasurable riding experience. Lastly, this new Michelin tire offers a usage period in line with the expectations of the most demanding cyclists.
A full dimensional offer
During the first launch phase, in March 2025, the MICHELIN City Touring will be available in five dimensions and 3 diameters: 26” (559 mm), 27.5” (584 mm) and 29” (622 mm), and three widths: 50 mm (2”), 55 mm (2.2”) and 60 mm (2.4”).
Other dimensions will be available as of June 2025.
The MICHELIN City Touring is suitable for most standard and electric city bikes on the market.
(1) Wet braking: Braking test performed on wet ground at the Wheel Energy independent test laboratory (Finland) on 07/10/2024, comparing a 47-622 Michelin PROTEK CROSS MAX and a 55-622 Michelin CITY TOURING. The tests were performed at the same pressure and on the same wheel, under the same grip conditions. The results may vary under real conditions of use, depending in particular on the road type, the riding behavior, and the weather conditions.
(2) Transverse grip on wet ground: Transverse grip test performed on wet ground at the Wheel Energy independent test laboratory (Finland) on 07/10/2024, comparing a 47-622 Michelin PROTEK CROSS MAX and a 55-622 Michelin CITY TOURING. The tests were performed at the same pressure and on the same wheel, under the same grip conditions at a 20° camber, under the same grip conditions. The results may vary under real conditions of use, depending in particular on the road type, the riding behavior, and the weather conditions.
(3) Puncture resistance: Crown puncture resistance tests using a 2 mm (flat) and 5 mm (conical) punch, and sidewall puncture resistance tests using a 2 mm (flat) punch performed on 07/16/2024 at the Wheel Energy independent laboratory (Finland), comparing a 47-622 Michelin PROTEK CROSS MAX and a 55-622 Michelin CITY TOURING. The tests were performed at the same pressure and on the same wheel. The results may vary under real conditions of use, depending in particular on the road type, the riding behavior, and the weather conditions.
(4) Pinch shock: Pinch shock resistance test using a 30° indenter and a 11.45 kg (25.24 lb.) weight performed on 07/17/2024 at the Wheel Energy independent laboratory (Finland), comparing a 47-622 Michelin PROTEK CROSS MAX and a 55-622 Michelin CITY TOURING. The tests were performed at the same pressure and on the same wheel. The results may vary under real conditions of use, depending in particular on the road type, the riding behavior, and the weather conditions.
