Less material, less CO₂: sustainable products help make the world more environmentally friendly


For the benefit of its customers and the environment, Michelin is working on improving energy efficiency, reducing the CO₂ emissions of tires in use, reducing raw material consumption right from the design stage, and developing new technologies and power sources for clean vehicles.

Low rolling-resistance tires


Reducing tires' rolling resistance helps lower vehicles' fuel consumption, so also reduces local pollutant emissions (NOx, SO2, etc.) and CO₂ emissions during the vehicle's useful life.

Since 1992, Michelin has launched six generations of car tires  and five generations of truck tires with improved energy efficiency. The Group has also reduced its use of raw materials by investing in research and innovation. This has led it to manufacture lighter tires with a longer lifespan and greater load-carrying capacity, in particular for truck tires.

Long-lasting performance tires

Extending the tire's lifespan makes more efficient use of the raw materials used to produce it and amortizes the amount of energy used during the manufacturing process over a greater number of kilometers covered.
This is Michelin's approach to designing tires that meet the goals of sustainable development and guarantee long-lasting performance.

The MICHELIN e.PRIMACY tire: eco-responsible and made to last

MICHELIN e.PRIMACY is the first MICHELIN tire to be designed with its life cycle analysis taken into account, i.e. the assessment of its environmental impacts throughout its useful life. MICHELIN e.PRIMACY is packed with cutting-edge technology, making it the most efficient tire in its category (1) when it comes to rolling resistance. It will therefore be more eco-friendly and cost-effective over its lifespan, while at the same time delivering the safety, grip and longevity for which MICHELIN tires are renowned. The MICHELIN e.PRIMACY tire has also been engineered to be CO₂ neutral at the time of purchase, from the mining of the raw materials through to the transportation of the tires (2). A world's first that paves the way to a new generation of products.

Hydrogen-powered mobility: another tangible outcome of the Group's "All-Sustainable" approach

Hydrogen is a natural fit for Michelin’s approach to sustainable mobility: It eliminates CO₂ emissions during vehicle usage, improves air quality, furthers the energy transition and is appropriate for all uses. Now the Group aims to speed up the rollout of hydrogen mobility. In addition to being the zero-emissions mobility provider, it has set out to become a global leader in hydrogen systems through Symbio, the joint venture set up with Faurecia in 2019.
