The new Michelin Pilot tire has just seen its certification recognized by EASA

The new Michelin Pilot tire, which has established unequalled performance in the General Aviation category, has just seen its certification recognized by EASA.

  • After the FAA* granted approval on November 16, 2023, EASA** has also recognized the new Michelin Pilot tire, which has established performance standards never-before achieved in the General Aviation category.

  • This new tire intended for the General Aviation market offers exceptional resistance and durability thanks to its advanced technology, the result of cutting-edge research and development.

  • An expanded range, with 9 references available, allowing it to be fitted on a wide number of aircraft on the market.

With increased performance in take-off and landing, and in terms of lifespan, the new Michelin Pilot tire has established performance standards never-before achieved in the General Aviation category. After its approval by the FAA* on November 16, 2023, the Michelin Pilot has seen this certification recognized by the EASA**.

A structure with exceptional durability

The new Michelin Pilot tire has a very deep tread, which allows for improving and extending tire life. Thanks to an innovative manufacturing process that integrates latest-generation nylon, it guarantees great endurance as well as uniform wear. This tire has a tread that is 21% deeper than that of the best competitor’s tire. For the pilot, this means less downtime, fewer tire changes, and thus quite simply, more time in the air.

The Michelin Pilot tire has been designed to offer long-lasting, all-season protection against ozone and UV radiation. Its tread now has two grooves instead of four, which increases the quantity of rubber in contact with the ground and thus reduces the wear rate. The deeper and wider shape of the grooves also guarantees excellent resistance to aquaplaning and optimizes performance in terms of braking distance on wet ground. The Michelin Pilot tire offers optimum comfort to pilots and exceptional balance, both in the taxiing phases and during landing.

The new market reference available in a very wide range

After a successful launch in the United States of America, the new Michelin Pilot tire is seeing its marketing extended to Europe. Its range has expanded with 2 new key sizes: 6.00-6 6PR and 6.00-6 8PR. A total of 9 sizes are currently available, allowing it to be fitted to a wide range of aircraft on the market.

“After its approval by the FAA and its successful launch on the North American market in 2023, we are extremely happy that this tire is now certified by the European Agency. Its characteristics in terms of durability, lifespan, and performance, as well as its availability in a wide range of sizes, make the Michelin Pilot tire the new tire referential for the General Aviation market”, stated Alicia Teillot, VP Marketing and Communication Michelin Aircraft.
