Formula-E 2017/2018 - Hong Kong - Michelin kicks off new Formula E season

There was an electrifying mood for the first two races of the 2017/2018 FIA Formula E Championship which took place this weekend in the streets of Hong Kong where Michelin, a founding partner of the competition, confirmed its involvement in the series until 2021.
After three fruitful campaigns, Michelin has confirmed that it will continue to develop energy-efficient tyres for Formula E which it views as a particularly valuable and relevant series when it comes to paving the way for tomorrow’s mobility.

Our innovation work has made significant progress since the beginning of Michelin’s commitment to Formula E. We began by developing the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV which was the first 18-inch tyre to be raced in an FIA-sanctioned championship. Thanks to its tread pattern, it was versatile enough for use in dry and wet conditions alike. At the end of the inaugural season, which allowed us to sign off the new technologies it featured, we launched the new MICHELIN Pilot Sport 4 which takes its inspiration from our race tyre. For Season 3, we introduced the even more energy-efficient second-generation version of our Formula E tyre, the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV2. The energy savings it delivered made it possible for the cars to complete an extra lap. The innovation programme Formula E has sparked off is clearly positive for the planet and Season 5 will see us bring a new, lighter and even more efficient Michelin tyre to the table.
