MICHELIN and Harley Davidson: already a ten-year partnership!
In September, MICHELIN presented the latest MICHELIN Scorcher® 11 and Scorcher® 31 tires for the new models in the Harley-Davidson Softail® 2018 range. The result of 10 years of co-development by the two brands, these tires join the MICHELIN Scorcher range first launched in 2007. Developed in only two years compared to the regular four, they testify to the fruitful collaboration between Clermont and Milwaukee, a collaboration based on shared values: respect for the customer and pride in high quality products. 2007-2017. A look back at 10 years in a winning partnership.
Harley-Davidson chooses Michelin as its official replacement tire supplier for its motorbikes. The Michelin and Harley-Davidson technical teams co-develop the first MICHELIN Scorcher® tires. A specifically designed range, immediately identifiable with conjoining markings on the sides of the tires, they are Michelin’s only co-branded tires...a genuine exception.
Michelin begins delivering Harley-Davidson’s OE tires. Michelin Scorcher® tires are exclusively sold in Harley-Davidson dealerships in North America.
Harley-Davidson’s OE tire deliveries continue to grow. Developed specifically for this manufacturer, the MICHELIN Scorcher® 31 tire is now fitted to four 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna® models.
On August 13, Michelin and Harley-Davidson announce their agreement to open up the market for retailers to sell their co-branded tires with the Michelin and Harley-Davidson markings on the side. MICHELIN Scorcher® 11 and Scorcher® 31 tires, fitted as original equipment on Harley-Davidson’s Sportster®, Dyna®, VRod® and Street® motorbikes, are made available to all tire retailers.

Developed jointly by Michelin and Harley-Davidson, two new Scorcher tires are offered as standard on a selection of Softail® 2018 motorbikes. The MICHELIN Scorcher® 31 tire has a traditional cruiser style, whilst the MICHELIN Scorcher® 11 boasts a more sporty design. The mixes selected for the tread on these two models ensure better traction at low temperatures, on damp to very wet roads and have an improved life-span. Scorcher® 11 and Scorcher® 31 tires are fitted as standard on many models and can be installed as after-market equipment on some of the range.
Michelin and Harley-Davidson
Over 100 years of motorbike history
At the turn of the 20th century, Michelin and Harley-Davidson took off on either side of the Atlantic Ocean. In 1889 for the firm based in Clermont, when André and Édouard Michelin began designing a removable bike wheel. In 1903 for the firm based in Milwaukee, when William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson built the prototype for a motorized bike in a little wooden lean-to. Coincidence: 1903 was the year that Michelin sold its first motorbike tire: the Triomphe model. Driven by the values of innovation and performance embedded in the brand’s DNA, Michelin has always played a decisive role in the world of motorbikes. Michelin was behind the first radial motorbike tire, invented in 1984 and sold in 1987. Its partnership with Harley-Davidson has allowed Michelin to develop its expertise for a specific market in this segment, designing the most adapted and best performing tires.
