The Urbalad RDI Campus at the heart of Michelin innovation

Prioritizing innovation is today the key focus of our corporate strategy. What this really means is concrete actions and commitments: investing in tools and people, reinventing horizontal working methods and adopting a resolutely tomorrow-focused state of mind. Urbalad, our new RDI Campus (Research, Development, Innovation), was recently inaugurated at the Ladoux technology center in Clermont-Ferrand and it epitomizes those commitments.

The Ladoux technology center was already a global benchmark but our objective is not merely to be number one in our sector. For more than a century Michelin’s ambition has been to be ahead of its time. This ambition lies behind Urbalad and a 270 million euro investment to open up a new era for the company.

The RDI Campus is 70,000 square meters built around an “Innovation Street” 320 meters long, built in only 10 months. Above all, it embraces the idea that tomorrow’s mobility can be invented in Clermont-Ferrand as quickly as it can in Silicon Valley or Shanghai.  The 1,600 available workstations host the many businesses present in Ladoux and representatives from our most innovative partner companies.  All the work platforms are modular and can be reorganized to suit different needs, to encourage discussions and sharing of knowledge and expertise.

Now that Michelin has inaugurated its new RDI Campus, the Group’s Technology Center is more than ever before the heart of our company. And this heart beats to increase Bibendum’s capacity to meet the expectations of its customers.

Jean-Dominique Senard, President of the Michelin Group
