Ambitions for 2050

Michelin has set environmental ambitions for 2050 and beyond. They include the following:

¹ In absolute value vs. 2010

² The i-MEP, Industrial Michelin Environmental Performance indicator - was introduced in 2021 to manage the environmental performance of the production sites and assess their contribution to achieving the Group's commitments. it monitors and controls water withdrawals, the amount of waste generated, the use of organic solvent, energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.

Outcome of the environmental ambitions up to 2020

The outcome of the environmental objectives defined and rolled out in 2013 is as follows:

Ambition # 4. Our products' performance

Innovate to widen our lead in product and service performance.

Ambitions

• Improvement of the overall products' performance by at least 10% vs. 2010, while using fewer raw materials
• 3 bn liters of fuel saved over tires' lifespan, i.e., 8 Mt of CO₂ avoided
• 30% of renewable or recycled materials in tires

Results

• Improvement of the overall products' performance by 11.6% vs. 2010, while using fewer raw materials
• 2.7 bl liters of fuel saved over tires' lifespan, i.e., 6.9 Mt of CO₂ avoided
• 28% of renewable or recycled materials in tires

Ambition # 5. Responsible manufacturing

Become a standard-setter in responsible manufacturing, logistics and purchasing.

Ambitions

• Reduce the environmental impact of the Group’s sites by 50% (MEF), by improving our energy efficiency by 38% vs. 2005
• Promote sustainable logistics and reduce CO₂ emissions by 10% vs. 2010
• Ensure that 70% of the 400 leading suppliers assessed by EcoVadis are compliant with Michelin standards

• Environmental impact of the Group’s sites (MEF)* reduced by 51.1% while improving the energy efficiency by 28.9% vs. 2005
• Reduction of the CO₂ emissions by 10.27% vs. 2010
• 828 leading suppliers assessed by EcoVadis and 84% are compliant with Michelin standards
