The Bombardier C-Series has done its first flight fitted with MICHELIN AIR X® tyres
Michelin’s Tires. With capacity to seat between 100 and 130 people, the new models, twinjet range, are scheduled to enter service in 2014.
More than ever, these new certification have strengthened Michelin’s position as the world’s tire technology leader by fitting new aircraft types with radial tires and NZG technology – which were both invented by Michelin –, which considerably increases both fuel economy and treadlife, while reducing maintenance costs and TCO.
Not only is Bombardier fitting its regional airliners with NZG technology, as Michelin is sole source supplier on this aircraft.
NZG radial technology has enabled Michelin to make the Bombardier CSeries aircraft safer to operate and to deliver the following competitive advantages:
- Up to 50% more FOD resistance, thereby increasing treadlife.
- Up to a 25% reduction in weight compared with a cross-ply tire, which translates into significant fuel savings for airlines.
- Up to a 100% increase in the number of landings compared with a cross-ply tire, which means less maintenance downtime for aircraft manufacturers.
- Up to $20,000 in TCO savings per year per plane7 (i.e. up to a 24% reduction in TCO) compared with an equivalent conventional cross-ply fitment.
The Bombardier C-Series will be equipped by MICHELIN Air X radial tires with NZG technology in the following sizes:
