Michelin announced today that it had acquired all outstanding shares in the publishing business of Mondéos, which specializes in travel guides. With the acquisition, Michelin has reaffirmed its leadership and strengthened its presence in the travel guide markes.

Based in Paris and founded in 1994, the Mondéos publishing business generated revenue of €1.6 million in 2015. With their in-depth knowledge of the leisure travel offering in France, Mondéos teams have developed two businesses in this fast-growing niche:

  • The Balado guide collection, which has identified more than 7,000 leisure activities for families near French cities.
  • The Mondéos guides, which allow travel agencies to produce exclusive guides for their brand, which can be personalized.

Innovative and dynamic, Mondéos has established its reputation by offering quality products both to travel agencies that want to see their logo on documents that will shape their customers’ discoveries and to the general public, which has perfectly identified the playful covers of these ready-to-use guides.

Michelin will be able to take advantage of the knowledge of Mondéos team members who have tested, evaluated and ranked theme parks, workshops and other first-time sporting adventures in its region or during a tourist stay. These data will be added to the base developed by our publishers and enrich both our print and web content. The insight of Mondéos teams in the area of travel guides that can be personalized is also deserving of praise and the sales and marketing know-how of Michelin teams will help to spread the growth of this business.

Claire Dorland Clauzel, member of the Group Executive Committee and Managing Director of Michelin Brand and Exterior Relations

By joining the Michelin group, Mondéos will benefit from access to our high-quality maps and editorial content in the areas of lodging, dining and culture. Our digital expertise will complete the system and provide major multi-channel, strategic development prospects. The acquisition is in line with the Michelin Group’s commitment to strengthening its understanding of French tourist uses in order to provide them with the best possible travel experience.
