2015 IAA - Spotlights on the MICHELIN CrossClimate Experience
Michelin is showcasing its latest innovations at the Frankfurt Motorshow. When the WRC rallye triple champion Sébastien Ogier dropped by the booth, he underlined that the MICHELIN tire performances were key to his success.
Mid-August, Sébastien Ogier won his third world rallye champion title in Australia partnering MICHELIN. “Motorsports are the biggest strain for tires, so they need to be both resilient and performing”, explained the pilot. “I am highly satisfied of the long-lasting collaboration with MICHELIN.”
MICHELINCrossClimate successful with car manufacturers
The highlight of the booth was MICHELIN CrossClimate, the first-ever summer tire with winter certification. This tire adapts to changing weather conditions while offering optimal security. Going through an experience tunnel, visitors were invited to witness how changing weather impacts their driving conditions on a typical day.

MICHELIN CrossClimate tire combines three innovative technologies

- An innovative tread compound. Firstly the tread area is extremely supple and increases the ability of the compound to adhere to the slightest roughness of the road surface under all conditions (dry, wet, and snow). Secondly, a new material beneath the tread optimises the energy efficiency of the tyre by reducing heat generation.
- A combination of a unique V tread pattern with new 3D interlocking sipes. This V tread pattern, with an evolutionary angle, optimizes grip on snow.
- New self-blocking 3d sipes The V tread pattern is combined with new self-blocking 3D sipes – ultra-wavy, varying in thickness and with complex geometry, these full depth sipes produce a claw effect on snow and thus increase traction.
