FIA GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP Titles for Haase/Mies, Hexis Racing and Michelin Germany's Christopher Haase and Christopher Mies wrapped up the 2009 Drivers' championship at the wheel of their Michelin-shod Audi R8 LMS.
The two Team Phoenix Racing drivers made sure of the title despite the difficult conditions encountered at Zolder. The second race saw torrential rain break out just before the refuelling window which led to the pit-lane suddenly becoming a hive of activity as the organisers decided to send out the safety car. Fourth spot at the finish was sufficient for the German pair to clinch the series after their victory in the opening race. Haase and Mies had previously won at the Autodromo do Algarve with their Audi R8 LMS/Michelin. The Manufacturers' title went to Michelin's partner Hexis Racing AMR which campaigned Aston Martin DBR9s in the hands of Manuel Rodrigues/Frédéric Makowiecki and Thomas Accary/Julien Rodrigues.
The 2009 FIA GT3 series, which permits open competition between tyre firms, saw Michelin win the calendar's 12 races in association with five different partner-manufacturers.
