WORLD SERIES BY RENAULT Motorland Aragon (Spain) Round 7
The 2009 Champions are Baguette, Costa and Verschuur
Belgium's Bertrand Baguette was already sure of winning this year's FR 3.5 title, but he celebrated his success in style this weekend by winning both races. Mike Verschuur clinched the Mégane Trophy crown thanks to his win in the first race, while Spaniard Albert Costa sealed the FR 2.0 title on home soil in front of an 80,000-strong crowd.
Michelin has been the exclusive tyre supplier to the World Series by Renault since 2005 and, as such, provides the slick and wet weather tyres for all the Formula Renault 3.5, Formula Renault 2.0 and Mégane Trophy cars.
The final meeting of the 2009 series took competitors to Motorland Aragon in Spain. Bertrand Baguette had already made sure of the FR 3.5 title at the Nürburgring, but he made a point of handing the Teams' crown to International Draco Racing thanks to his score of two wins this weekend. Fairuz Fauzy and Charles Pic joined the Belgian on the 2009 Drivers' podium.
Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 The name of the 2009 champion was only confirmed after the very last race of the season. Spurred on by home fans, Albert Costa took the crown. His win in the first race kept up the suspense, but third place in the second showdown was enough to hand him the title ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne.
Eurocup Mégane Trophy A judicious refuelling strategy in the first race helped Mike Verschuur pocket the 2009 title. His main rivals Enjalbert and Hirschi both tried to reach the flag without stopping, but they were forced to finish at a relative snail's pace! The Dutchman made sure of the title thanks to another win in the second race.
