Tuesday December 12, the new Renault F1 team driver Heikki Kovalainen was in Clermont-Ferrand to celebrate with Michelin the FIA 2006 world championship titles.

“It’s an honour for Clermont-Ferrand to host this event. Thank you Michelin and Renault for organizing it”, said Serge Godard, the mayor of Clermont-Ferrand, when he welcomed Heikki Kovalainen.
Heikki Kovalainen takes his seat in the world champion car just a few minutes before the demonstration starts.
Mechanics of the Renault team start up the F1 and remove the heater blanket from the Michelin tires.
Almost 15 000 inhabitants of Clermont-Ferrand gathered on the place de Jaude and avenue Julien to watch the demonstration starring the world champion F1 Renault.
Alongside the route, the audience was protected by two rows of barriers.
Nick Shorrock, director of Michelin’s F1 activities, was right: the city of Clermont-Ferrand is one of the lucky few in the world to host a Formula 1 in its streets.
He had promised his audience a few burn-outs before the show…

and screeched his tires as soon as the occasion arose.
